Mercury Dancing

Slow-motion photography is fascinating!  Here is a blob of mercury sitting on a plastic lens which is stuck to a speaker using Silly Putty.  When a tone is played through the speaker, the mercury responds.  It forms geometric shapes that change as the frequency changes.  The music was added later...


From a diamond to a star to a circle, this is best when it is slowed down. For comparison, here is the video at regular speed with the original tones:

Boy, that was fascinating to watch. I really liked seeing what the frequency did to the mercury at regular speed- fascinating.

i liked the star the best. it looked like a piece of shiny cereal that i would like to eat, except for the mercury poisoning...
